San Marcos is on Interstate 35, which is known as the central avenue for trade between Canada, the United States and Mexico. The city is also minutes away from Interstate 10, a vital transportation link between the east and west coasts.

At the heart of the city is the clear, spring-fed San Marcos River, which is ideal for fishing, paddling and relaxation.

The city is home to the state’s third most popular tourist attraction – the Tanger Outlet Center and Prime Outlets San Marcos – which draw more than 6 million visitors a year.

Thousands of migratory birds stop to feed and rest near the San Marcos River each winter. As a result, there are nearly a dozen sites throughout San Marcos devoted to accommodating bird-watching enthusiasts.
